Mexican Caribbean hotel occupancy reaches 51.5% in September

Hotel occupancy in the Mexican Caribbean reached an average of 51.5% during the second week of September. Performance varied significantly by destination. Costa Mujeres and Cancún reported the highest occupancy rates at 56.9% and 56.4%, respectively. Other destinations included Tulum at 51.1%, Riviera Maya at 49.3%, Isla Mujeres at 46.9%, and Puerto Morelos and Cozumel at 46.3% each.

In contrast, Holbox and Costa Maya recorded the lowest occupancy levels, with Holbox at 26.1% and Costa Maya at 30.3%. While Holbox saw a strong summer season with an average occupancy of 75% and peaks of 90% in August, the island is currently entering a traditional low season. Local tourism providers attribute the recent decline in Holbox to economic challenges and fluctuating weather conditions, though they anticipate a recovery starting in November due to Day of the Dead festivities.
