Mexican Catholic Bishop condemns rising violence and corruption

Ramón Castro Castro, Bishop of the Diocese of Cuernavaca and president of the Mexican Episcopal Conference (CEM), has expressed deep concern regarding the rise of violence in Mexico. During a Sunday homily at the Cuernavaca Cathedral, the religious leader addressed the increasing frequency of homicides, rampant corruption, and the breakdown of the family unit.

Castro Castro specifically highlighted a recent machete attack at a school in Torreón, Coahuila, as a sign of growing violence within educational institutions. He called on parents to take an active role in preventing social decomposition by educating children with strong values and urged the community to reject apathy toward crime.

Addressing critics of the Church's involvement in socio-political issues, the Bishop stated that limiting the Church's voice would be a betrayal of the Gospel. He reaffirmed the institution's commitment to supporting victims of crime and searching collectives (madres buscadoras), while continuing to address issues such as extreme poverty and the migration crisis.
