Mexican cemeteries host nocturnal tours featuring legends and history
Various Mexican cities are hosting nocturnal cemetery tours as part of seasonal cultural traditions. In Cuernavaca, the La Leona Cemetery is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its night tours. These 40-minute experiences feature actors portraying local mythological figures such as Aurora, the Violinist, and the Charro Negro to provide a suspenseful atmosphere for visitors.
In León, Guanajuato, the San Nicolás Cemetery has launched night tours as part of the 27th Festival of Death. These tours, titled ‘León: Raíces de una villa y ecos de Cristiada’ and presented by Julio Castillo Teatro, combine historical narratives with local legends. The program includes rituals by concheros dancers and focuses on stories related to the Cristero War, a significant historical conflict in Mexico.
