Mexican Chamber of Deputies honors journalist Francisco Garfias

The Mexican Chamber of Deputies held a posthumous tribute for journalist and Excélsior columnist Francisco “Pancho” Garfias Antolín. The ceremony took place in the Plenary Hall, where Garfias spent over four decades reporting on parliamentary debates and political negotiations.

Legislators from various political parties recognized Garfias for his professional rigor, honesty, and commitment to freedom of expression. During the event, Ricardo Monreal Ávila, president of the Political Coordination Board, reflected on the relationship between the press and public power. Monreal emphasized that the duty of a journalist is to investigate and demand accountability, while the responsibility of public servants is to listen and respond to criticism.

The tribute included members of Garfias's family, executives from Excélsior and Grupo Imagen, and professional colleagues. A video presentation highlighted his career, which included serving as a correspondent in Paris and covering significant historical events in Mexico.
