Mexican Chamber of Deputies session interrupted by open microphone

A private conversation was broadcast during a virtual meeting of the Welfare Commission of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies. As Commission President Ana Karina Rojo Pimentel was closing the 16th ordinary meeting, an open microphone captured a man asking for two minutes to comment, followed by a woman stating, “No, ahorita me voy a subir a bañar, para que veamos nuestros pendientes” (No, right now I am going to go up to take a bath, so we can see our pending matters).

The incident caused laughter among the 25 remote participants and two in-person attendees. Rojo Pimentel requested that PRI deputy Christian Mishel Castro close the microphone, though he denied it was his device.

Prior to the interruption, the commission discussed an upcoming meeting with Leticia Ramírez Amaya, the new head of the Secretariat of Welfare, and rejected an initiative by PAN deputy Noemí Luna Ayala regarding reforms to the General Law of Social Development.
