Mexican Chamber of Deputies to present literary awards

The Mexican Chamber of Deputies, led by Ricardo Monreal Ávila and in collaboration with Instituto Cervantes director Luis García Montero, will host a literary awards ceremony on October 14 at the Legislative Palace.

The event marks the second year of the Excellence in Letters of Humanity Prize and the inaugural presentation of the Jaime Sabines Young Poetry Trajectory Prize. The current call for entries received 45 candidacies from 15 Mexican states, including 24 for the Excellence in Letters award and 21 for the Jaime Sabines prize.

Élmer Mendoza Valenzuela has been unanimously selected by the jury to receive the 2026 Excellence in Letters of Humanity Prize. The jury, which includes Luis García Montero, Marco Antonio Campos, Alí Calderón, Iliana Olmedo, and Maritza M. Buendía, recognized Mendoza Valenzuela for his international literary career spanning novels, short stories, drama, and essays.
