Mérida to host 2026 Festival de las Ánimas

Mérida will host the 2026 Festival de las Ánimas, themed ‘Recuerdos de corazón’, from October 24 to November 2. The event is designed to honor Mayan traditions and remember deceased loved ones through various cultural activities.

Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada announced that the festival will feature video mappings in the San Sebastián, San Juan, and La Ermita neighborhoods, as well as monumental figures along the routes. The celebrations will expand to include the General Cemetery, the Xcunyá and Dzibilchaltún communities, and the San Sebastián district.

Key activities include ‘Ánimas Iluminadas’ on October 24, featuring simultaneous lightings at the San Juan Arch, the General Cemetery, and La Ermita park. The program also includes night tours of the General Cemetery and a ‘Noche Mexicana de Día de Muertos’ at Paseo de Montejo.
