Mexico prepares for Day of the Dead celebrations and festivities
Various regions across Mexico are preparing for the Day of the Dead celebrations, involving both cultural festivities and municipal maintenance. In Guanajuato, the eighth edition of the Day of the Dead Festival will run from October 28 to November 2, featuring 350 exhibitors and international guests from Japan and Playa del Carmen. The event is expected to drive significant economic impact through tourism.
In Puebla, the Municipal Cemetery is preparing for over 95,000 visitors with special security, medical, and orientation modules. Similarly, in Ajalpan, the ‘Paseo de las Calaveras’ will feature monumental figures and parades, while in Xoxocotlán, municipal authorities are conducting cleaning and maintenance in cemeteries to prepare for families.
Mérida is also reinforcing maintenance across 35 cemeteries, including pest control and increased operating hours. In Azcapotzalco, a contest for traditional altars offers prizes of up to 15,000 pesos to encourage community participation. Additionally, workshops in Mexico City are offering free training in making ‘papel picado’ to preserve traditional techniques. In Delicias, the ‘Las Delicias de la Muerte’ festival will include concerts, theater, and themed tours from October 21 to November 5.
