Mexican communities prepare for traditional commemorations of the deceased
Various communities in Mexico are preparing for traditional commemorations of the deceased. In the state prison (Cereso), authorities and inmates are organizing an exhibition of Hanal Pixan altars to preserve Yucatecan traditions and encourage family interaction during the November celebrations.
In the Otomí community of San Cristóbal Huichochitlán, Toluca, the cycle of remembrance begins earlier in September. On September 28 and 29, families gather at cemeteries to clean graves and offer flowers to honor children and infants who have passed away, a tradition that has been maintained by local residents for over six decades.
