Veracruz judges impose long prison terms in two feminicide cases

A court in Veracruz sentenced Iván García Guzmán to 62 years in prison for the 2021 killing of Martha Yolanda Herrera Ramírez, a 33‑year‑old pharmacy worker and mother, in Boca del Río. The judge applied the maximum penalty under the state penal code, while the victim’s sister expressed that the sentence does not erase the family’s loss and noted the possibility of an appeal.

In a separate case, a judge handed a 70‑year sentence to Marlon “N” for the 2021 feminicide of Montserrat Bendimes Roldán, also in Boca del Río. The ruling represents the maximum term for the crime, and the victim’s mother said the judgment brings a sense of justice but the pain remains. Both verdicts underscore the harsh penalties applied to gender‑based murders in Veracruz and the ongoing legal processes surrounding them.
