Mexican courts impose 62‑year and 28‑year prison terms in separate homicide cases

A judge in the State of Mexico sentenced Hugo Santiago Velasco to 62 years and six months in prison for the 2023 feminicide of his 27‑year‑old partner in Ocuilan. The court said Velasco assaulted the victim inside her home on 28 September 2023, resulting in her death, and the sentencing was announced by the State of Mexico's Attorney General’s Office.

In Sonora, three individuals received long prison terms for separate homicides. María Felicitas and Emir Francisco were each sentenced to 28 years, one month and five days and ordered to pay fines and restitution for the killing of Carlos Armando in Nogales on 6 January 2025. René Guadalupe N was sentenced to 25 years for the June 2023 murder of Carlos Ernesto in Cajeme, and also faces monetary penalties. The Sonora Attorney General’s Office highlighted its commitment to investigating and prosecuting intentional homicides.
