Mexican courts issue prison sentences for fuel smuggling and homicide

In separate legal proceedings in Mexico, authorities have secured prison sentences for two different criminal acts.

In Tepotzotlán, State of Mexico, Sebastián “N” was sentenced to four years in prison for the illegal transport of 19,000 liters of automotive diesel. The Federal Attorney General's Office (FGR) reported that the individual was intercepted by investigators while driving a tanker truck without the necessary permits or documentation to prove the legality of the fuel transfer. In addition to the prison term, a judge imposed a fine equivalent to 4,000 Units of Measure and Update (UMA).

In Ahome, Sinaloa, César Armando “N” received a 29-year prison sentence for the qualified homicide of a small-scale rancher. The crime occurred in December 2022, when the defendant and an accomplice attacked the victim with a blunt object during an attempted robbery of cash from livestock sales. The victim later died from brain injuries sustained during the assault. The court also ordered the defendant to pay over 595,000 pesos in total for moral damages, funeral expenses, and victim indemnification.
