Mexican cultural institutions announce new arts programs and awards

The Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) held the 2026 Visual Arts Contest, an initiative aimed at discovering and projecting new university talent in the plastic arts. The awards ceremony, led by officials including Secretary of Extension and Culture José Javier Villarreal, recognized the creative vision and technical effort of student participants.

In Mexico City, the Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC) has announced its exhibition programming for the second half of 2026. The season focuses on themes of memory, political ecology, and sound experimentation. Key highlights include works by German artist Julian Rosefeldt, such as the multi-channel video installation ‘Manifesto’ featuring Cate Blanchett, and the audiovisual piece ‘Euphoria,’ which critiques contemporary capitalism. Additionally, MUAC is consolidating its permanent exhibition strategy for its art collections and documentary archives starting in October 2026.
