Mexican cultural institutions host art sessions and award literary prize
The Mexican Secretariat of Culture and the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL) are hosting cultural events focused on literature and art.
As part of the Aztlán exhibition, the Palacio de Bellas Artes will hold a reading session regarding Chicano art and indigenous science fiction. Led by curator Joshua Dalí Sánchez González, the session will explore the concept of “transtemporality” through the work of Jesse Lerner, examining how Chicano art blends Mesoamerican culture, pop culture, and science fiction to reimagine identity and the future.
In literary news, Jessica Anaid Hernández Jiménez has been awarded the 2026 Malcolm Lowry Bellas Artes Prize for Young Novel. Her winning work, “Esa bala que siempre termina por impactarme,” was recognized by a jury for its effective construction and its nuanced handling of the theme of drug trafficking through the interconnected stories of three women.
