Mexican cultural traditions and chocolate tourism highlighted

In Chiapas, the community of San Roque has revived a long-standing tradition by preparing a monumental 3,000-liter vessel of pozol, an ancestral Zoque beverage. The tradition, which originally began in 2007, had been paused for several years due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. The new stainless steel container is decorated with fiberglass and artwork honoring the Zoque ethnic group. To serve the large number of devotees and visitors, organizers used 350 kilograms of pozol dough, 300 kilograms of sugar, and 150 jugs of purified water.

In Mexico City, the Choco Story Zócalo Cocoa and Chocolate Museum is celebrating its first anniversary. During its inaugural year, the interactive museum hosted over 50,000 visitors. The facility offers educational experiences, including traditional chocolate preparation using a metate and tastings of chocolates filled with ingredients like mezcal and mole. The museum operates in partnership with the Belgian company Puratos and aims to double its attendance through its central location and multilingual audio guides.
