Mexican currency items gain collector interest

Numismatic interest is driving up the market value of certain Mexican currency items. A 1,000-peso banknote issued by the Banco de México in 2007, featuring Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, is being offered on e-commerce platforms for approximately 8,900 pesos. The high price is attributed to its historical significance and excellent condition, particularly when presented in official Banxico collector envelopes.

Additionally, Banco de México has confirmed that the four bimetallic 20-peso commemorative coins related to the 2026 World Cup remain available at various bank branches. These dodecagonal coins represent Mexican host cities—Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey—through designs such as the Angel of Independence and Cerro de la Silla. While the 20-peso coins are available for exchange at specific branches, the gold and silver commemorative editions are primarily targeted at collectors due to their precious metal content.
