Mexico prepares for 216th Independence Day celebrations and military parade

Mexico is preparing for widespread celebrations marking the 216th anniversary of its Independence. Central to these festivities is a major civic-military parade scheduled for September 16. In Mexico City, the parade will feature over 15,000 members of the Army, Air Force, and National Guard, supported by 99 aircraft, 45 drones, and 536 land vehicles, including domestically manufactured armored units like ‘Huracán’ and ‘Titán’. The event will also showcase humanitarian capabilities through the Plan DN-III-E.

Regional preparations are also underway. The Navy (SEMAR) will participate in parades in Acapulco and Veracruz, showcasing maritime and infantry capabilities. Local municipalities, including Toluca, Los Cabos, and San Martín Texmelucan, have announced road closures, increased security presence, and community events such as the ‘Fiesta Tricolor’ in Mexico City to manage large crowds and ensure public safety.

To prevent accidents during the holiday period, the Mexico City Security Secretariat has launched the ‘Conduce sin Alcohol’ (Drive Without Alcohol) operation, deploying hundreds of officers across all 16 boroughs to conduct sobriety checkpoints.
