Mexican deputies propose reforms for missing persons searches and maternal mental health

Mexican federal deputies have introduced separate legislative initiatives aimed at supporting women and families.

Verónica Martínez García proposed an emergency program to provide integral support, financing, and protection for collectives and mothers searching for missing persons. The proposal urges the Secretariat of the Interior and the National Search Commission to provide direct subsidies and material aid, such as excavation tools and geolocation technology, to ensure effective searches and protect the physical integrity of those involved.

Separately, Paloma Domínguez Ugarte presented a reform initiative to recognize maternal mental health as a public health priority. The proposal seeks to amend the General Health Law, the Federal Labor Law, and social security laws (IMSS and ISSSTE). Key elements include implementing protocols for early detection of postpartum depression and anxiety, as well as establishing special temporary licenses for working women with perinatal mental health disorders to protect their employment and labor rights.
