Mexican deputy and citizen report threats and legal abuses amid rising online hate

Federal deputy Luis Humberto Fernández Fuentes, a licensed member of the Morena party, said he received threats through social‑media platforms. He filed formal complaints with authorities, warning that such hostility threatens the stability of Mexico and the state of Querétaro. Fernández also announced his candidacy for the coordinator of the Fourth Transformation Defense Committees, which will lead Morena’s campaign for the state governor race.

In Huauchinango, Puebla, resident Beatriz Cruz filed a complaint after being threatened by Jorge Alejandro Lechuga. When she went to the local public ministry office, the prosecutor, José Manuel González Jarquín, allegedly pressured her to settle the case and subsequently charged her with illegal entry. Cruz lodged complaints with the State Human Rights Commission and the local Visitaduría, accusing the ministry of abuse and favoritism, and appealed to the state attorney general and governor for intervention.
