Mexican Deputy Leonel Godoy Denies Homicide Accusations, Plans Counterclaim Against Mayor Greece Quiroz

Deputy Leonel Godoy (Morena) rejected accusations that he was the intellectual author of the homicide of Carlos Manzo, the mayor of Uruapan who was killed earlier. Godoy said the February 17 complaint filed by Uruapan mayor Greece Quiroz, Manzo’s widow, lacks evidence and also names Raúl Morón Orozco and Ignacio Campos Equihua.

Godoy announced he will file a counter‑lawsuit against Quiroz after the upcoming elections next year, arguing that false accusations have legal consequences. He described himself and the other officials as victims of political repression and emphasized he was not present at the crime scene nor involved in the investigation. The case has heightened political tension in Michoacán, but no judicial developments have been reported.
