Mexican deputy links clandestine refinery to former Tamaulipas governor

Sergio Gutiérrez Luna, Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies, has alleged links between the former government of Tamaulipas and a clandestine refinery discovered in Reynosa. The investigation points to Maytrack S. A. de C. V., the company that owns the land where the illegal facility—which held nearly 4 million liters of illicit fuel—was located.

Gutiérrez Luna stated that Maytrack received approximately 208 million pesos in government contracts during 2017, 2018, and 2019, while Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca was governor. The contracts were reportedly granted by Reynaldo Garza Gómez, the Undersecretary of Technical Services and Projects, acting under instructions from Cabeza de Vaca. Garza Gómez has been identified by critics as a financial operator for the former governor.

The legislator argued that this case reinforces long-standing allegations regarding connections between the Cabeza de Vaca administration and the ‘huachicol’ (fuel theft) industry in Tamaulipas.
