Mexican deputy proposes mandatory advance notice for roadworks

Deputy Jesús Martín Cuanalo Araujo of the Green Ecological Party of Mexico (PVEM) has introduced an initiative to require authorities and concessionaires to provide advance notice regarding construction, reconstruction, and maintenance works on federal roads and bridges.

The proposal seeks to reform the Law of Roads, Bridges, and Federal Motor Transport and the General Law of Mobility and Road Safety. Under the initiative, notices must include details such as the affected section, type of work, responsible party, estimated start and end dates, affected lanes, temporary speed limits, and alternative routes.

For high-impact disruptions, such as total closures or mandatory detours lasting more than eight hours, the notice must be issued at least 15 calendar days in advance. Information is to be disseminated through official electronic portals, an open data repository managed by the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport (SICT), and physical preventive signage at work sites.
