Mexican drivers ascend: Jourdain named GP ambassador, Escotto races Indy NXT/F3, León eyes F1

Former CART champion Michel Jourdain Jr. has been appointed ambassador for the 2026 Mexico Grand Prix, which will take place from 30 October to 1 November at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The appointment was announced by the event’s director Federico González Compeán, who highlighted Jourdain’s long‑standing contributions to Mexican motorsport.

Mexican racer Ricardo Escotto is balancing a season that spans Indy NXT and Formula 3. Competing with Juncos Hollinger Racing in Indy NXT, he has scored points on U.S. circuits, and after a teammate’s injury he stepped into an AIX Racing F3 car at the Barcelona Grand Prix. He has further races scheduled at Portland, Monterey and later European F3 events.

In Formula 2, Monterrey‑born Noel León secured Mexico’s first Feature Race win at the Hungarian Grand Prix, placing him fifth in the championship. His performances have attracted interest from several Formula 1 teams, who are now in talks about a potential future seat. León emphasizes staying focused on racing while negotiations proceed.
