Mexican education officials address regional needs and unpaid teacher settlements

In Mexico, federal and state education officials are addressing various administrative and resource challenges. Federal Deputy Rosalinda Savala Díaz met with Mario Delgado, head of the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP), to present the needs of the educational community in Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán. Savala Díaz emphasized the importance of strengthening public education and maintaining communication with federal institutions to support teachers and students in the municipality.

Separately, the Secretariat of Education of the State Government (SEGE) reported 32 outstanding legal awards (laudos) owed to high school teachers. SEGE head Deysi Maribel López Sierra stated that these debts were inherited from previous administrations. While a teacher recently reported non-compliance with a federal injunction, López Sierra confirmed that payments have begun in installments. She noted that the total debt is less than 500,000 pesos and must be covered by the Secretariat's own budget rather than federal funds.
