Mexican educators address school needs and systemic challenges
Educational authorities and officials in Mexico are addressing varying levels of school needs and systemic challenges. In Nava, Coahuila, Deputy Magaly Hernández and education officials conducted inspections of three primary schools: Fortunato Osuna, Jesús García, and Emiliano Zapata. During these visits, authorities delivered sports and cleaning supplies. School administrators reported several infrastructure requirements, including irrigation systems, air conditioning maintenance, internet access, and new furniture.
Separately, Aurora Ceh Reina, a preschool education supervisor, criticized the effectiveness of the ‘Nueva Escuela Mexicana’ following recent PISA results from the OECD, which showed Mexico maintaining concerning positions in international learning evaluations. Ceh Reina noted that frequent school closures due to technical council days and weather conditions impact attendance. She also raised concerns regarding the ‘La Escuela es Nuestra’ program, suggesting that because funds are managed by parent committees, school directors and supervisors have limited influence over determining the most urgent institutional priorities.
