Mexico: Social aid in Sonora and flight investigations in Quintana Roo
In Sonora, Governor Alfonso Durazo has initiated the third disbursement of 2026 for the ‘Oportunidades’ cards under the Economic Strengthening Program for Vulnerable Families. The state Secretariat of Welfare confirmed that funds will be reflected in beneficiaries' accounts in the coming days, with subsequent deposits scheduled for October 23 and December 4.
Regarding electoral preparations, the IEEyPC in Sonora is planning for the 2027 elections, which will formally begin in October. The institute is establishing timelines for independent candidates, who must gather citizen support equivalent to 3% of the nominal list.
In other political developments, PAN senators Mayuli Martínez and Ernesto Sánchez Rodríguez have called for an investigation into private flights linked to Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama. The request seeks to clarify the origin of funds used for approximately 97 private flights, estimated to cost around 20 million pesos.
Additionally, in Aguascalientes, Deputy Emanuelle Sánchez Nájera urged members of the State Electoral Institute (IEE) to avoid political conflicts ahead of the 2027 local elections, following calls for the resignation of the institute's head.
