Mexican Episcopal Conference calls for peace and security

The Mexican Episcopal Conference (CEM) issued a call to action on the International Day of Peace, asserting that “Mexico is not condemned to violence.” In a message titled ‘Peace is everyone’s task,’ the bishops emphasized that peace must be built daily and should not be treated as a mere absence of conflict.

The CEM highlighted that for many citizens, peace means the ability to leave home, work, travel, and raise families without fear. They warned against becoming accustomed to the ongoing violence, which includes killings, disappearances, family displacements, and extortion of workers and merchants.

The Church directed specific requests to various sectors of society:

- To authorities: Fulfill the responsibility to guarantee security, the rule of law, and effective access to justice. - To families: Eradicate violence within the home and promote respect and fraternity. - To schools: Focus on forming responsible citizens. - To the media: Contribute to a culture of truth and encounter rather than polarization and violence.
