Mexican Ex‑Governor Mario Marín Remains Detained at Altiplano Prison

Mexico’s Cabinet of Security denied media reports that former Puebla governor Mario Marín Torres had been transferred from the maximum‑security federal penitentiary known as Altiplano to serve house arrest in Xilotzingo. Official statements confirmed that Marín continues to be held at the Centro Federal de Readaptación Social Número Uno in Almoloya de Juárez and that his legal status has not changed.

A federal appellate court granted an amparo ordering a new resolution on the revocation of Marín’s prior house‑arrest order, but the decision does not free him. The court’s directive requires the Cancún‑based Tribunal Colegiado de Apelación to address procedural defects before any change to his custodial arrangement can be made. Marín remains in custody while facing charges of alleged torture of journalist Lydia Cacho.
