Mexican fans crowned most passionate supporters at World Cup
The Mexican supporter group was awarded the title of the most passionate fan base of the tournament. At the Estadio Ciudad de México, 87,000 fans generated the highest decibel level recorded by FIFA during the group stage matches.
Outside the stadium, more than 800,000 people gathered in the streets of Mexico City after the victory over the Czech Republic, while celebrations spilled into New York’s Times Square, which was lit in green, and Los Angeles, where caravans of fans paraded. Other notable displays included an Ecuadorian flag in Manhattan, Moroccan fans turning Boston red, Argentine supporters traveling en masse to U.S. cities such as Miami, Dallas and Kansas City, and an unexpectedly large Norwegian fan presence at several venues.
