Mexican Farmers Face Delayed Corn Subsidies and Hail Damage
In Campeche, Mexico, about 400 maize producers in six municipalities have not received payments from the federal "white corn" support scheme. The Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER) halted payments after identifying false beneficiary records, leaving roughly 409 producers—equating to around 25 million pesos—still unpaid. Producers blame administrative capture errors, noting that 2,265 verified growers have been paid a total of 108 million pesos, with 1,856 already receiving funds.
Meanwhile, severe hailstorms over the past two months in the northern part of the State of Mexico have prompted roughly 500 aid requests from farmers growing corn and vegetables, especially in Ixtlahuaca and Jocotitlán. The state’s agro‑climatic disaster program offers up to 4,000 pesos per hectare (maximum 12,000 pesos for three hectares) and has already processed more than 10,000 assistance requests since its inception.
