Mexican Federal Forces Expand Plan Cuautla Security Operation in Morelos

The state of Morelos has entered the second stage of the federal security initiative known as Plan Cuautla, ordered by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. More than 400 federal, state and municipal personnel—including units from the Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional, the Secretaría de Marina and the Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana—have been deployed across the municipality of Cuautla. The operation, announced by Sara Olivia Parra Téllez, spokesperson for the State Coordination Table for Peace and Security, aims to prevent and deter high‑impact crimes such as extortion and intentional homicide.

Authorities are urging residents who are victims of such crimes to file reports through secure channels, emphasizing that the expanded presence is intended to build public confidence. The first phase, which focused on 14 high‑crime neighborhoods, resulted in the detention of several violent offenders and the involvement of about 1,100 local merchants in proximity actions. The current phase extends the deployment to the entire Cuautla territory, continuing the strategy of community‑based policing and crime eradication.
