Mexican Federal Magistrate Julio Antonio Gómez Rodríguez Killed in León Bar Brawl
Julio Antonio Gómez Rodríguez, a 39‑year‑old federal magistrate, died after a violent altercation outside the Cervecería 21 bar on Francisco I. Madero street in central León, Guanajuato. Witnesses say the dispute, reportedly with his brother‑in‑law, escalated inside the bar around 02:00 a.m. on 27 July. Gómez Rodríguez fell down a set of steps, suffered a head injury and lost consciousness. Paramedics arriving at the scene found him without vital signs and declared him dead.
The Guanajuato State Attorney’s Office (FGE) has reclassified the case as a homicide doloso and opened a criminal investigation. The magistrate’s brother‑in‑law was detained as a suspect. Authorities cordoned the area, collected evidence, and transferred the body to the Service Medical Forensic (Semefo) facilities for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Gómez Rodríguez held the head of the First Collegiate Administrative Tribunal of the Sixteenth Circuit since September 2025.
