Jorge Luis N linked to extortion in Cancún, faces second criminal charge
A judge in Quintana Roo linked Jorge Luis N to a new criminal process for extortion after investigators determined he threatened a media business owner in Cancún. The victim, who works in print media, reported receiving threatening phone calls and texts, followed by visits from intimidating individuals, prompting him to leave the state. On 18 January the suspect placed a yellow envelope on the victim’s windshield at Supermanzana 71, demanding either a monthly payment of 200,000 pesos, the closure of the victim’s social‑media accounts, or the victim’s departure from Quintana Roo, under threat of death. This charge follows a prior linkage to a attempted femicide case earlier in the year. The court ordered a two‑year preventive prison measure while the investigation continues.
The case is being pursued by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Kidnapping and Extortion, which presented the evidence that led to the judge’s decision.
