Mexican fishermen rescued after five days adrift in the Pacific

Two Mexican fishermen, José Luis Portales and Daniel Guerrero, survived five days adrift in the Pacific Ocean after their boat, the ‘Camaronera’, was struck by a wave. The incident left them approximately 240 kilometers off the coast of Chiapas, Mexico.

To stay afloat, the men used a light blue cooler and gasoline cans to maintain balance while drifting without food or potable water. Following a distress call from a fishing cooperative, the Mexican Navy launched a search operation. The pair was successfully rescued on August 19 after being spotted by an aircraft.
