Mexican football coaches criticize Leagues Cup format

Mexican football coaches are criticizing the Leagues Cup format following the elimination of 10 Mexican teams from the tournament. Managers have expressed concerns regarding physical exhaustion and unfair advantages caused by travel and recovery schedules.

Sebastián Abreu, coach of Tijuana, described the current conditions as a “physical butchery,” emphasizing that players are human beings subject to wear and tear rather than robots. He noted that teams like América and Toluca benefited from playing at home and having rest, while others struggled due to travel.

Antonio Mohamed also voiced similar frustrations after a loss to LAFC, citing the impact of frequent travel and insufficient recovery time compared to opponents playing in their own stadiums.
