Mexican Football Federation sues Kalshi over Liga MX trademarks
The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Kalshi Inc. and Kalshiex LLC in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The legal action, filed on September 22, 2026, alleges the unauthorized use of Liga MX club names and logos on Kalshi’s prediction market platform.
Kalshi’s platform features a dedicated Liga MX category where users trade event contracts on specific matches, futures, and league leaders. The FMF is seeking an immediate injunction to stop the use of its intellectual property and is demanding the restitution of profits generated from these contested contracts.
The dispute follows failed attempts at an amicable settlement. In July 2026, the FMF issued a formal cease-and-desist notice, which Kalshi rejected by invoking the principle of fair use. The case, assigned to Judge J. Paul Oetken, represents a significant legal tension between the rise of sports-based prediction markets and the protection of professional sports branding.
