Mexican forensic institutes boost human‑rights training for victims of torture

Six forensic doctors from the Procuraduría General de Justicia del Estado (PGJE) of Baja California Sur received scholarships to train under the EC1105 competency standard, which aligns with the Istanbul Protocol for documenting torture. The initial training took place on 3‑4 August at the Universidad de la Policía y Ciencias de la Seguridad (UNPOL) in Aguascalientes, with a follow‑up evaluation scheduled for 25‑27 August. The program is supported by the Instituto Interdisciplinario de Ciencias Penales and the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) of Aguascalientes.

Separately, the Instituto Jalisciense de Ciencias Forenses (IJCF) and the Universidad del Valle de Atemajac (Univa) will host a Regional Congress on Humanism in Forensic Sciences on 20‑21 August 2026. Director Alejandro Axel Rivera Martínez emphasized the need for empathetic, human‑centered forensic work and highlighted collaboration with neighboring states such as Zacatecas, Guanajuato, Colima and Aguascalientes.
