Mexican government certifies seven Tokyo restaurants for authentic cuisine

Seven restaurants in Tokyo have received official certification from the Mexican government for serving authentic Mexican cuisine. The “Sello M” designation is awarded by the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Academia Mexicana de Gastronomía to establishments outside of Mexico that faithfully represent traditional culinary identities.

To earn the certification, restaurants must demonstrate the use of traditional ingredients and cooking techniques, employ chefs with deep knowledge of Mexican gastronomy, and meet local health and safety standards. The certified Tokyo establishments include TAQUITO in Shin-Koiwa, New Classic Tortilla Club in Yoyogi-Uehara, OCTA in Numabukuro, SALSA CABANA in Yotsuya, Peltre y Barro in Daita, HOBO TACOS in Nakano, and Tepite in Shimokitazawa.

Additionally, Mexico Sands Diner in Tsudanuma, Chiba, also received the certification, bringing the total number of recognized authentic Mexican restaurants in the Tokyo area to eight.
