Mexican Health Authorities Advise Food Safety Measures Amid Heat Season

The Sinaloa State Health Secretariat urged residents to strengthen food‑hand hygiene during the summer heat, warning that high temperatures promote bacterial growth in seafood, meat, dairy and produce. Dr. Gerardo Kenny Inzunza Leyva emphasized hand washing, proper refrigeration, separating raw and cooked foods, and buying from establishments that follow sanitary standards to avoid gastrointestinal illnesses such as diarrhea, vomiting and fever.

Separately, the federal Secretariat of Health and the Yucatán State Health Secretariat said the risk of ciclosporiasis – dubbed “explosive diarrhea” – remains very low in Mexico, with only three isolated cases reported nationally. SSA head David Kershenobich clarified that there is no outbreak in Mexico, contrasting with a larger outbreak in the United States, and advised travelers to stay informed and seek medical care if symptoms persist.
