Mexican Industrial Firms Face Financial Crises and Supplier Embargo Threats
The National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (CANACINTRA) warned that suppliers to Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA) could face legal embargoes if outstanding debts with the financing firm Credinor are not renegotiated. Jorge M. Falco, CANACINTRA president in Monclova, urged affected businesses to seek immediate payment restructuring to avoid severe asset seizures.
Separately, the Industrializadora de Cacao de Tabasco (Incatabsa), once a leading cocoa processor in the southeast of Mexico, is on the brink of bankruptcy. Production has fallen to less than one percent of the state's harvest, processing only about 100 tonnes of cocoa annually. After decades of state support and earlier attempts at rescue, the company has not secured new funding, threatening the livelihoods of thousands of regional cacao producers.
