Mexican judicial powers meet in Querétaro to discuss autonomy and political rights

Representatives from the 32 judicial powers of Mexico gathered in Querétaro for the Third Ordinary Plenary Assembly of the National Commission of Superior Courts of Justice (Conatrib). During the assembly, Querétaro Governor Mauricio Kuri González emphasized that the rule of law and access to justice are non-negotiable.

Braulio Guerra Urbiola, President of the Superior Court of Justice of Querétaro, addressed the ongoing debate regarding potential legislative changes to double nationality and its impact on access to public office. Guerra Urbiola stated that political participation and citizenship are fundamental rights that must remain central to any discussion. He noted that while the proposal aims to prevent foreign interference, any such changes would require a constitutional reform and must be analyzed by the Union Congress and academic experts to ensure democratic principles are upheld.

Rafael Guerra Álvarez, President of Conatrib, highlighted the importance of institutional dialogue and cooperation among judicial bodies. Guerra Urbiola added that Mexico requires judicial powers capable of collaborating and evolving without sacrificing their autonomy or independence.
