Mexican lawmakers seek investigation into former mayor Bárcenas

Lawmakers in Mexico are calling for an investigation into former Acatlán mayor Guadalupe Lucero Bárcenas following allegations made by Oaxaca Governor Salomón Jara regarding potential links to organized crime.

Julio Huerta, president of the Governance Commission in Congress, stated that the governor’s claims constitute sufficient evidence for the State Prosecutor's Office (FGE) to launch an inquiry. He noted that authorities in neighboring Oaxaca may also be conducting investigations due to the municipality's proximity to the state border.

In response, Bárcenas issued a statement dismissing the allegations as unfounded. She claimed to be a victim of organized crime herself and characterized the accusations of complicity as a “perversion of reality,” requesting that the governor review his sources of information.
