Mexican legislators call for increased funding to combat family violence

In San Luis Potosí, legislator Jessica Gabriela López Torres has called for increased budget allocations to combat family violence. Data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP) shows that between January and July 2026, the state recorded 5,923 cases of family violence, a rate of 197.26 per 100,000 inhabitants, which exceeds the national average of 121.49.

López Torres emphasized that the state congress must ensure sufficient resources are provided to the State System for Integral Family Development (DIF) for training campaigns and parental support programs. She also advocated for better coordination between the DIF and the Secretariat of Women to design effective public policies.

In Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas, the Municipal Institute for Women reported that women aged 30 to 40 were the primary group seeking assistance for emotional crises during 2025. Contributing factors included physical and psychological violence, unemployment, and economic difficulties. Additionally, specialists have raised concerns regarding self-harming behaviors among adolescents, urging families to monitor behavioral changes.
