Mexican legislators propose new transparency and resource oversight reforms

In Sonora, Deputy David Figueroa Ortega has introduced an initiative to expand transparency obligations for autonomous constitutional bodies. The proposal seeks to reform the State Transparency and Access to Public Information Law to ensure citizens can better access information regarding the performance and results of the State Electoral Tribunal (TEE Sonora), the Administrative Justice Tribunal (TJA), and the Superior Institute of Audit and Oversight (ISAF).

Under the proposal, the TEE Sonora would be required to publish public versions of sentences, resolutions, and voting records. The TJA would need to disclose resolutions and plenary sessions, while the ISAF would be tasked with publishing annual audit programs and reports on public account reviews.

In Nuevo León, Deputy Brenda Velázquez Valdez of the Movimiento Ciudadano party is pushing for a constitutional reform to prevent the misuse of public resources. The initiative proposes that all state powers, municipalities, and autonomous bodies must clearly identify official vehicles and other movable assets with institutional imagery. This measure aims to allow citizens to distinguish official property from private use, particularly to prevent the misuse of government assets for personal or political purposes ahead of the 2027 electoral process.
