Mexican legislators propose protections for teachers
In Mexico, legislative efforts are underway to address the professional and financial security of educators. In Michoacán, Deputy Reyes Galindo Pedraza has proposed a reform to Article 192 of the state's Penal Code. The initiative aims to protect teachers from false accusations and smear campaigns initiated by students or parents, which the deputy argues can damage the honor and careers of long-standing educators.
Separately, Deputy Héctor Yunes Landa has introduced an initiative before the Mexican Congress to amend Article 3 of the Constitution. This proposal seeks to guarantee the inviolability of teachers' salaries across all educational levels. It aims to prohibit any unauthorized or unilateral deductions from teacher compensation, establishing that such violations could result in serious administrative responsibility for state institutions or legal consequences under Federal Labor Law for private institutions.
