Mexican legislators propose using AI to boost tourism
Mexican legislators have proposed strengthening the tourism sector through the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), innovation, and enhanced coordination between government, businesses, universities, and local communities. These proposals were discussed during the “Mexico, Smart Destination” forum organized by Beatriz Milland Pérez, secretary of the Tourism Commission.
Legislators emphasized that a “smart destination” involves using innovation to better understand visitors and services, facilitate investment, and create opportunities for local residents. Gabriela Jiménez Godoy, vice-coordinator of the Morena Parliamentary Group, noted that a primary challenge is utilizing technology without displacing cultural identity or human labor. She suggested establishing a permanent working group to identify projects and create opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) using data and AI to solve real-world problems.
