Mexican local officials pursue 2027 municipal candidacies

Mayor Salvador Santos Cedillo of Huamantla confirmed he remains in the internal selection process of the Partido Verde Ecologista de México (PVEM) for the 2027 municipal elections. He said he will continue to serve as mayor while the law allows, noting that each coalition partner – PVEM, Morena and the Partido del Trabajo (PT) – will follow its own mechanisms to choose candidates. Santos highlighted that recent events in Huamantla, including the Feria Internacional del Arte Efímero and Dalia 2026, proceeded without incident thanks to coordinated security efforts.

Local deputy Georgina Guzmán Álvarez announced she is considering a run for the mayoralty of Huimilpan in the same 2027 cycle. She emphasized that any final decision will depend on negotiations within the PVEM‑Morena‑PT alliance and on poll results. Guzmán affirmed she has not engaged with other parties and continues to work within the alliance, noting that her family name remains a political asset in the municipality.
