Mexican Mayors Complete Road Renovations Amid Local Controversies

Mayor Blanca Angulo Meneses of Chiautempan announced the completion of the Campeche Street rehabilitation in the El Alto neighborhood. The project, part of a municipal program that has upgraded more than 25 streets, aims to improve traffic flow and safety for motorists, pedestrians and students accessing nearby schools.

In the neighboring municipality of Chocamán, mayor María Isabel Figueroa Luna faces a formal complaint from residents over the construction of Avenida Hidalgo. Neighbors allege that the work began without required legal procedures, that the original contractor abandoned the project leaving unfinished pavement and drainage, and that subsequent contractors have produced substandard installations that cause sewage leaks and health risks. The complainants have filed a petition with the state oversight body, Orfis, demanding accountability and transparency.
