Mexican mayors register for Morena party internal election processes
Several Mexican mayors have officially entered the internal selection process for the Morena party as part of preparations for future elections.
Armando Martínez Manríquez, the Mayor of Altamira, Tamaulipas, registered to participate in the process for a federal deputy seat. He stated that according to party rules, he is not required to resign from his current position as mayor to seek the candidacy. Martínez Manríquez attributed his political strength to recent economic growth and investment in Altamira.
In Quintana Roo, Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo registered to compete for the coordination of Federal District 02. This position is part of Morena’s organizational structure leading toward the 2027 elections. The party intends to select coordinators through surveys and will apply gender parity criteria during the selection process.
