Mexican migrant Priciliano Trejo dies in Georgia ICE detention center
Priciliano Trejo, a 29‑year‑old Mexican migrant diagnosed with leukemia, was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in North Carolina in June 2026 and transferred to the Stewart Detention Center in Georgia on 19 June. He asked for medical attention on 6 July, but ICE did not provide care for eight days. He was finally taken to a Georgia hospital on 13 July, fell into a coma on 15 July, and ICE transferred custody of him to his family. Trejo died in the hospital on 24 July. ICE confirmed his death on 30 July. Migrant‑rights groups allege medical neglect, call for an investigation and demand the closure of Stewart, which has been linked to 15 migrant deaths. The Mexican foreign ministry has filed 20 criminal complaints after 17 Mexican nationals died in ICE custody since May 2025, bringing the total number of Mexican deaths related to ICE actions to 19, seven of them attributed to medical neglect.
